Matas Jankauskas began his piano studies at the age of 8 at the Juozas Naujalis Music School, where he studied in the classes of Natalija Lukošienė, Rymantė Šerkšnytė and Vida Jagminaitė. He received a laureate diploma at the Juozas Naujalis School's competition "Sounds of Music". In 2012-2018, he continued his piano studies at the Royal Northern College of Music (Manchester, UK), in the class of Professor Colin Stone. At that time, Matas gave recitals and participated in various competitions - L. van Beethoven's sonatas, F. Chopin Prize, etc. In 2022, Matas won first place in the "Grand Prize Virtuoso International Music Competition", Vienna; first prize at the "Golden Classical Music Awards" in New York; and second place in the 23rd music competition and festival "Music without Borders" in 2023, Druskininkai. He has also played in masterclasses with Jerome Lowenthal, Stephen Hough, Dmitry Alekseev, Andrzej Jasiński, Graham Scott, Philippe Cassard, Michel Béroff, Stefano Fiuzzi, Gabrielius Alekna, Edvinas Minkštims, Zbignev Ibelhaupt and Albina Šikšniūtė.

Matas has performed at venues such as Weill Recital Hall, Carnegie Hall (New York, USA), Gläserner Saal Musikverein (Vienna, Austria), Barber Institute of Fine Arts (Birmingham, UK), Bösendorfersaal (Mozarteum University, Salzburg, Austria), Kaunas State Philharmonic, Kaunas Artists' House, Adelė and Paulius Galaunis House, National MK Čiurlionis Art Museum in Kaunas, MK Čiurlionis Memorial Museum in Druskininkai, etc.
