After a 15-year hiatus, the best Lithuanian musical "The Devil's Bride" returns to the stage!
The musical by V. Ganelins and S. Geda, which was presented in the largest Lithuanian arenas during its premieres, has attracted enormous interest from the audience - tickets were sold out as soon as they appeared on sale. In 2012-2013, the production visited all major Lithuanian cities, more than 30 thousand people saw the performance and there were no indifferent people - after each performance, the audience wiped away tears and did not spare stormy applause.
The brilliant music of Viačeslav Ganelin, witty texts by Sigitas Geda, updated scenography and well-known Lithuanian performers once again invite the audience to experience together a sensitive story about the eternal struggle between good and evil, a tragicomic search for happiness, in which reality intertwines with mysticism, and folklore motifs, flavored with Lithuanian folk humor, accompany the heroes' pure feelings of love.
This work is truly immortal – it is the first Lithuanian musical based on the short story “Baltaragis malūnas” by Kazys Boruta. The musical film created in 1973 by director Arūnas Žebriūnas is inscribed in golden letters in the history of our cinema and is often called the first Lithuanian rock opera, as it was conceived as a kind of response to AL Webber’s work “Jesus Christ Superstar”. So even today, five decades after its creation, the fame of the musical “The Devil’s Bride” does not fade, and the love of the audience only grows stronger. You can’t even imagine what kind of devilry was really going on in the then Paudruvė region... Come and see it all for yourself!
The main roles are played by Irena Starošaitė, Giedrius Arbačiauskas, Justinas Lapatinskas, Martynas Stankevičius, Karolina Činikaite, 10 professional dancers, and other Lithuanian performers in a special scenography with video projections.
